October 2009, The Upwelling Festival
On 31st October Portland hosted the inaugural Upwelling Festival, featuring the Five Whales artistic project. This new festival was inspired by the Bonney Upwelling, the blue whales, and by the work that the Blue Whale Study has done over the years to publicise both the whales and the upwelling. We had a stall at the Festival selling our merchandise (postcards, caps and badges), and providing information about blue whales and the upwelling. It was a great day, the weather was perfect and there was a bigger turnout than Portland has seen for an event in many years.
